The expression tester is a tool that can be used to test placeholders and functions in Senta, and is available to all admin level users.

To turn on the expression tester, click on Settings > Expression tester.

The expression tester will display as a bar at the bottom of the page. You can type any placeholders or functions into the top half, and the result will display in the bottom half.

The expression tester is dependent on which page you open it on. If you want to test whether placeholders will work in the context of a specific job, then you should open the expression tester on the page where you are viewing that job, or job template.

As you start to type the placeholder name, you will be offered suggestions.

To save you typing out the references, you can click on any of these suggestions to pull them through to the expression:

And if there are additional references that can be used, Senta will display these if you add a "." to the end of the reference. For example, the Account manager field is a User field. We can use {client.accountmanager} to pull through the full name of the Account manager:

Or we can use {client.accountmanager.firstname} to pull through only the first name of the Account manager. Add "." to accountmanager to see the suggestions:

...and then click on the suggested reference to see the results:

If the text you have entered will not work in a placeholder, Senta will display an error message in red.
